R.I.P. MSgt. Shoemaker

Richard Eric Shoemaker passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022. Richard was born in Evergreen Park, Illinois, on June 9, 1973, to Richard Stanley Shoemaker and Carol Jean Stritzel.

Richard was a loving husband, father, son and friend. For 20 years, Richard proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, beginning his military career on Jan. 30, 1992, and retired on April 30, 2012, from Marine Corps Base Quantico. Following his dedicated military career, Shoemaker continued his service to the nation working at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency. Richard enjoyed spending time with his wife, Kelly Shoemaker and four children and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed kayaking, fishing and hiking. He was a devoted father, husband, friend and great Marine.

Richard is survived by his parents, Richard Stanley Shoemaker and Carol Jean Stritzel; father-in-law, Glenn Charles Thompson; mother-in-law, Diane Creamer Thompson; his sister, Susan Jean Shoemaker; his wife, Kelly Jean Shoemaker; his sister and brother-in-law, Faith and Brandon Jones; and his children: Erica Elizabeth Shoemaker (Gary Burbol Jr.); Rachel Kathleen Shoemaker, Riley Eric Shoemaker and Megan Jane Shoemaker.

A visitation for Richard will be held Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 186 Shelton Shop Rd, Stafford, Virginia, followed by a celebration of life on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. Richard will be laid to rest Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Rd, Triangle, Virginia.

A visitation for Richard will be held Monday, January 9, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 186 Shelton Shop Rd, Stafford, Virginia 22554. A celebration of life will occur Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 11:30 AM, 186 Shelton Shop Rd, Stafford, Virginia 22554. An interment will occur Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 1:30 PM at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Rd, Triangle, Virginia 22172.
